The Sign that relates the history of the park which was refurbished by the local volunteers

Neerdie, Council Breaks Community Spirit
(“Sack the Morons that made this Decision”)
This  incident last August, of the Council banning the local volunteers from doing the job that Council is paid to do by the ratepayers, but fails to do, exposes other huge problems in the Gympie Regional Council.

The Beautiful surroundings to the O Brian Park on Power Rd Neerdie.

The local residents tired of asking the Council to maintain the local park, the only community area in Neerdie, an area donated to the community by a local resident, over the years commenced to service the park, mowing, weeding, raking the leaves up removing dead trees, extra. They re painted the sign which gave the history of the park. These stalwart volunteers used all the equipment that they are quite qualified to use on their farms and local properties and were quite content to work together. In the knowledge that they were paying their rates for others to do this job and doing it themselves. Above all this was the need for the job to be done, this is the one place in there community where they could meet, it was a historic site and they did not want to lose it. They did not want to see it return to Jungle, before they commenced the community effort the weeds were four feet high.

Then they were informed by the Council that they were not allowed to maintain the park.
Council wanted to impose this ban on the pretext that they had no insurance. Council though is quite capable of providing that insurance or ignoring it when ever anyone mows the grass on the road reserve in front of their house. So the local volunteers were rightfully angered by Councils response.
Call were made for the resignations of all Councillors and this incident raised many other faults in the organisational disaster called the Gympie Regional Council.

The poor decisions and subsequent lack of quality work come from the top, and as an ex Council employee I know for a fact that the field staff themselves question (when they can) the methods employed by senior staff within GRC.

You don’t need to look far to find this level of poor decision making within GRC. It runs through most of its’ departments, from the substandard quality of road maintenance (caused by poor directives from senior management) to the contract non renewal of the only staff member Council had who could program and attach the radio transmitters for the new water meter system they wish to introduce. Given that staff member moved his entire family up here on the premise of permanent work with Council and is now in a dire situation, and Council’s expensive radio reading system sits idle and unused, that decision, made by the CEO of GRC exemplifies where the incompetence lies. That staff member was also conducting asset surveys using an RTK GPS and those skills are extremely hard to find. I wonder how the community would feel knowing this six figure investment lies idle because the CEO didn’t want to maintain someone competent in his job.

The fact they are neglecting Neerdie’s park and waive themselves of responsibility comes as no surprise to me at all.

Boxjellyfish is correct. We have a real problem with senior management staff at the council. It seems that they don’t want to keep subordinate staff who are more intelligent and competent than they are. Many good staff members have been lost over the years. Jeff73 mentions spending on cars and computers. I agree. Senior management staff like to think they are pretty clever in buying all the latest computer equipment, but this is not much help to people who can’t get their dangerous roads repaired or maintained. Also it’s just not necessary for senior management staff to attend as many conferences at luxurious resorts as they do. I don’t like my rates money being wasted on that sort of thing. Huge savings could be made on vehilces. Staff just need to get from point A to point B safely they don’t need to do it in great flash style. I don’t know what the solution is to this problem. Perhaps we need councillors who will address the matter.

Another by the Gymp says

Go to your homes and await instructions! Don’t think for yourselves, don’t try to help yourselves. don’t even breathe by yourselves, the council will get a contractor to deliver air to you, at a cost you can’t afford but they and some mates better make some money out of it or it will be deemed illegal.
The irony is that such carry on was once the preserve of the likes of Bligh and her cronies, and I’m sure anybody in council who puts such restrictions in place would tell how wrong they are for doing so, while doing it themselves.
Nanny state, nanny council, they know best, just ask the useless fools that hold positions that allow them to interfere in people’s lives and actions.
It wouldn’t be so bad if any of the idiots in the Mary Street offices did ANYTHING except get in the way, and find reasons to employ more useless people to get in the way more, hence requiring rate increases for ever declining services, and freedoms.
In the dumb state we seem destined to continue to try to be the dumbest.
At least I guess we ‘lead’ at something?
Sack the morons that made this decision, that’ll be a start.
