Too Many Chiefs & Not Enough Indians

Un Edited Letter to Editor
Re- Council Staff Numbers, 29 Oct. Thank you, Cr Engeman for the information supplied by Council Staff, which is not necessarily the views of council or Councillors. I agree, when he says the second time, “Keep the debate factual” as truth in government is always in layers, we would have had to count them ourselves. Permeant 269 in 2006, Full-time equivalent) 487 in 2011.

The quibble over the difference between full time equivalent and permanent can only be solved by comparing employment cost for staff and contractors 2006 and 2011. Those were the figures I requested in my last letter. Again, he has not provided them. In his 487 figure, does this also include the contractors who clean the toilets, and put out the Road work Signs? Forty years ago Council did not contract out our rubbish collection, it also supplied Gas & Electricity, it made profits. It had its own lollipop men, not contractors.
This is what I asked him for.
“So before Cr Engeman gives us more sanctimonious lessons on keeping things factual, he should address the real cause of councils expanding extortion, which is the increase in wages since, say when the staff was at 269 in June 2006, during the last term, and now when the staff is at 487. This is the relevant figure as this comparison will show why our Rates have been galloping. Many will wonder why he omitted this comparison in his letter of so called clarification.”
The last line of my last letter was, “no flowery wish wash, just publish these facts Cr Engeman.” He answer with more ‘flowery wish wash’.
In his first letter of clarification he made amalgamation the excuse, now the excuse is the State Government. Then he has the cheek to compare Council with Business. What can we do on our properties, everything needs a costly licence. A barber cannot even fit a sink into their premises without getting a licence from our Third Reich. Business makes a profit or ceases to exist. Council is a mammoth cancer on our backs it sucks, feeds and grows like a virus on the host, it does not pay any of the 170 taxes that are imposed on Business. It does not pay rates. Every year, mindfull councillors increase their wages and address Councils losses by increasing our rates.
Cr Engeman uses statistics as a drunken man uses lampposts, for support, rather than for illumination. Illumination, is what this problem so urgently needs. In the Cimmerian gloom bureaucratic parasites reproduce and thrive. They have evolved an immunity to even the most powerful remedies. Attempting to control these bureaucratic parasites by conventional means is worse than useless. Even if you succeed in getting rid of significant numbers, you eliminate only the least expensive, the weakest and least harmful.
Those remaining are hardier, even more resistant to control, they reproduce and multiply at an even greater rate. The only treatment which has any chance of success is the administration of light, pioneered in business industry. These bureaucrat, hiding in the stygian recesses and crevices of the Council offices are unprotected only when exposed to direct light. Cr Engeman calls for “Strong Debate” but that is forbidden, as these days General Meetings at Council are over in 30 minutes.
We have to start at the top. Only debate, with the threat of bright exposure will send them into frenzied paroxysms, like Dracula, they will crumble to dust when the spotlight is turned on them. That is what is needed in Gympie Council.
